Post by HerHusbandPost by David RuetherPost by Ty FordAny handy cams out there like that...oh and with decent sound
What do you want to shoot with it, and how?
If you are not shooting in sand, snow,
under water, etc., there are several small HD
camcorders that shoot a narrower angle of view
I tried the GoPro camera but the distorted view and lack of a view screen
were deal killers for me.
The fisheye view of the GoPro is useful for action, whereas
a super-wide rectangular perspective lens would be annoying
with rapid direction-changes of the camera, since that
would result in rapid size changes of objects within the
frame area (that is a good reason, in addition to practical
"design" aspects relating to the required size of the optics,
why we also see in "fisheye"-perspective). Also, with a
fisheye, with the tilting of the camera up or down and back
and forth, the parallelism of lines that are parallel in the
subjects is better maintained, instead of having them wildly
shifting out of parallel in the image. Fisheye-perspective
also makes practical having extremely wide angles of view,
ones that would be impossible to achieve using rectangular
perspective as 180 degrees is approached (and I once owned
a fisheye that exceeded 180 degrees, going out to 220 degrees
and it could therefore "see" things behind the plane of
focus[!]). Fisheyes can be your friend...!;-)
Also, while tiny, the GoPro does have an available (for about
$80) a rear screen accessory for the camera...

There is a newer model (the TS4) available that is also
fairly cheap that is also referred to at that URL...
Post by HerHusbandIt doesn't have the quality of my TM700, of course, but it's tough and
waterproof. I have used it underwater while snorkeling, used it to take
video on a zip line, and seriously beat it up riding on Jet ski's. It has
worked wonderfully.
Neat! Good suggestion. Apparently, also, the recommended
yearly replacement of the seals by Panasonic is now only
about $50, which makes it more practical than formerly...
Post by HerHusbandI use my TM700 camcorder when I can, but grab the TS3 if I expect rain,
water exposure at the beach, rough handling, or underwater. Sometimes I
grab the TS3 when I don't want to haul my full camcorder around and just
want something I can just stick in my pocket.
